With this record Daniel Lanois succeeds in fusing two very minimalistic artists at the time without losing one of both identities. "The pearl" breathes the atmosphere of Eno's "Ambient" series, but the pieces of music here are less sketches and more songs. The album offers serene electronic piano music that will largely emphasize the mood that you're in. A joyful one will lead to even more peace, a melancholy mood will be brought to tears. Either way in the vast landscape of new age albums "The Pearl" stands out. The purchase of a new age record has often been compared with the choice of a new wallpaper, but mind you that with buying this record you're getting yourself a genuine Claude Monet painting.
